URPP Digital Religion(s)

Research Phase 2 (2025 - 2028)

Research Digital Religion(s)

The URPP Digital Religion(s) analyses phenomena of communication, interaction, and transformation the Digital Society. It investigates developments and dynamics of digital religion(s) specifically related to, shaped by, and, in turn, shape the dynamics of technological advancements.

The URPP seeks to reflect on these phenomena theoretically, conceptually, and critically, while also identifying new substantive research questions and methodological challenges within the field.

In a time of polycrisis (in its societal, political, ecological, economical, technological, existential and religious dimensions) the URPP highlights the significance and relevance of our research for institutionalized religion(s), society, and politics as well as individual religion-related ways of life.

It therefore embraces and actively assumes our responsibility to communicate the ethically and politically relevant findings to religious, political and societal actors as well as to foster concrete transfers to stakeholders, into policy and decision-making.

Thematic Clusters and Sub Projects Digital Religion(s)

In its second phase, the research focus Digital Religion(s) will be divided into four clusters. Each cluster consists of three to four projects.

The total of fifteen projects not only collaborate within their respective clusters but also engage in a diverse thematic, conceptual, and methodological exchange beyond them. This creates opportunities for collaboration both within, across and beyond the four clusters.
